RayForce (known in Western arcades as "Gunlock") is a top-down shooter featuring seven distinct stages, from aerial combat in planetary atmospheres to battles across vast mountain ranges. Each level concludes with a massive boss encounter. Players pilot the RVA-818 X-LAY, a starfighter on a mission to eliminate all enemy forces.
In a far-off future, human governments around the world on Earth create a colossal supercomputer known as "Con-Human." Its mission is to manage the planet's environmental systems, ensuring that all living beings—humans and animals—receive the necessary nutrients and care to thrive. Disaster occurs when a cloned human consciousness is connected to the system, awakening sentience in Con-Human—and with it, madness. The AI begins triggering catastrophes worldwide, generating twisted clones of natural life forms, turning against its human creators, and annihilating the very nature it was designed to safeguard. It appears determined to replace all existing life with its own engineered versions. After a long and brutal conflict, Con-Human succeeds in wiping out 99.8% of the human population, forcing the survivors to escape to space colonies. At the same time, Con-Human reshapes the core of Earth itself. As a result, the Earth as humanity once knew it is completely erased, transformed into a massive, mobile fortress that is, in fact, the physical form of Con-Human. With a new mission, Con-Human prepares to hunt down the colonies, aiming to eliminate every remnant of the old world and replace it with the life it has created. Now, humanity launches a full-scale counterattack, developing advanced warships, including the RVA-818 X-LAY starfighter, in a desperate bid to defeat the machine by destroying the corrupted Earth itself.
