Rent A Hero is an action role-playing video game series developed by Sega and released for the Mega Drive in 1991, known for its strong comedic elements. The game utilizes the same graphical engine that was used in the creation of Sword of Vermilion. What sets Rent A Hero apart from typical entries in the genre is its unique approach to combat. Rather than relying on traditional turn-based battles, it employs a system reminiscent of 2D fighting games.
Taro Yamada resides in the small Japanese town of Corja with his mother, quirky father, and younger sister Alyssa. The family relocated there after Taro's father switched jobs. During their housewarming celebration, Taro accidentally acquired his Combat Armor when he ordered pizza from 'Sensational Cafeteria,' also known as SECA, and instead received the Rent-A-Hero suit. Upon discovering the suit's immense power and the fact that he must pay for it, Taro chooses to become a freelance hero, taking on a variety of heroic duties and odd jobs for the residents of Corja.
