Resident Evil Outbreak is a survival-horror title available only on the PlayStation 2. The gameplay mirrors that of earlier Resident Evil entries, focusing on exploration, puzzle-solving, item collection, and survival. It was the first game in the Resident Evil series to feature multiplayer support, utilizing the PlayStation 2's online capabilities. Up to four players could join together in a single scenario. In single-player mode, the protagonist is joined by two characters controlled by the game's artificial intelligence.
Resident Evil Outbreak is set across five different scenarios, spanning from the initial outbreak to the destruction of Raccoon City by the U.S. government. You take on the role of one of eight regular residents of Raccoon City trying to survive the chaos unleashed by the T-Virus.
