Summary
Rise of Nations: Thrones and Patriots is the official expansion for the real-time strategy game Rise of Nations. It is the second title in the Rise of Nations series developed by Big Huge Games. Thrones and Patriots builds upon the original game by introducing new elements such as additional monuments known as "Wonders," new nations, governments, and campaigns. The expansion includes six new civilizations, four new world-conquest game modes, the "Patriot" elite general unit, and the senate structure. The core gameplay remains consistent with Rise of Nations, featuring a progression through different historical eras and requiring players to manage and grow their empires at both strategic and tactical levels. However, Thrones and Patriots introduces campaigns with more turn-based strategy elements and the option to make non-combat decisions. Up to eight players can participate in multiplayer games, with AI-controlled opponents available to fill in as needed. Additional features, such as armed caravans and merchants, were introduced to enhance game balance.
