Summary

Rocky Super Action Boxing is the first officially licensed video game inspired by the beloved Rocky movie franchise. Based on Rocky III, the game was developed by Coleco. Players can choose to take on the role of either Rocky Balboa or Clubber Lang, competing against the computer in a single-player match or facing off against a friend in a "Head to Head" two-player mode. A "Demo" option is also available for those who want to watch Rocky and Clubber Lang battle it out. As one of the later titles for the ColecoVision, the game features a pause function for added convenience. Each boxing match is divided into two, five, ten, or fifteen one-minute rounds, depending on the selected difficulty level. During the match, players are limited to three vertical "lanes" of movement and can move horizontally from their side of the ring to the front of their opponent. The four-button controller enables separate actions for offensive strikes—body or head punches—defensive blocks for the head and body, and a ducking maneuver. Scoring in the game is done by landing a hit on the opponent's guard for one point, or landing a successful punch to the head or body, each worth two points. A player can win by achieving a knockout or by earning the most points if the match goes the distance.
