Run Saber is a 1993 side-scrolling action title created by Horisoft and released by Atlus for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. It hit North American shelves on June 8, 1993, and was later made available in Europe the same year. In the game, players control Allen and Sheena, the two central Run Sabers, as they engage in side-scrolling combat to rescue the planet. The game's style and mechanics closely resemble those of Strider.
Decades from now, after Earth has become heavily polluted and natural resources have nearly vanished, a scientist devises a rapid solution: a powerful chemical designed to undo the damage of pollution. As humanity begins colonizing space to escape the toxic conditions, the chemical is launched via missile into the atmosphere, where it detonates and spreads throughout the air. But the chemical has a terrible side effect—it mutates anyone exposed to it. Fully aware of the consequences, the scientist uses the mutated beings as an army to take control of the planet. Humanity’s last hope lies in Project Saber, a trio of genetically enhanced cyborgs with abilities beyond the natural limits of humans. Kurtz, the first Saber, goes rogue and flees to Earth before the project is finalized. The remaining Sabers, Allen and Sheena, are sent on a mission to stop the scientist and his army of mutants, and to deal with Kurtz if necessary.
