Summary
Serpent is a Game Boy snake game available only in North America and Japan. In a futuristic world, there is a sport known as Serpent. Two combatants control serpentine robotic machines in an attempt to corner each other and win the match. The serpents are unique in that they are not just simple lines, adding a more realistic feel to the game. Each snake has a set number of lives, with losing a life symbolizing "losing the war." When the game ends, a message appears stating "the bitter taste of defeat," accompanied by an animation of a sad snake and a somber waltz-style melody. The game features two modes with four difficulty settings. Level 1 is the easiest (standard speed and enemy behavior), while Level 4 is the most challenging (increased speed and enemies that often survive damage). In the first mode, players battle directly against an opponent, while the second mode introduces small snakes that appear if a level takes too long to complete. Players can launch missiles by collecting them during gameplay. White numbers help the player grow longer, while black numbers cause the body to shrink. Missiles can either increase the enemy's speed (black missiles) or slow them down (white missiles). Winning 7 out of 13 matches automatically crowns the player as the "champion of serpents."
