Summary
The gameplay in *Sexy Parodius* follows the same style as the rest of the series, but with a new twist. In addition to progressing through each level by defeating enemies and avoiding damage, players must also complete a unique mission for every stage. These missions can include gathering a specific number of coins, destroying particular objects, or eliminating certain types of enemies. Whether or not the player succeeds in the mission will determine if they can proceed to the next stage or which stage they will face next. Unlike previous versions, the home releases of the game (with the exception of the PSP version) retain cooperative multiplayer, allowing both players to play at the same time. The game has also been enhanced so that it continues running even when one player is selecting a character after a continue. In two-player mode, when specific characters are close enough to each other, a third shot appears between them. These can include purple shots that swirl across the screen, homing hearts that target enemies, or rockets that fire straight ahead. This feature was first introduced in Konami's arcade title *Trigon*.
