Summary

Shadow Ops: Red Mercury is an action-packed first-person shooter that features contemporary military weapons, gear, and strategies, delivered in the style of a big-budget action film rather than a strictly realistic military simulator. Players advance through structured missions, engaging in combat against terrorists and enemy forces in settings across the world, including Syria and France, while utilizing a variety of modern guns.

Storyline

The player assumes the identity of Captain Frank Hayden, a top-tier Delta Force operator and ex-leader of Black Saber, the President’s clandestine security unit. Hayden and his squad are on a mission to retrieve a nuclear briefcase bomb known as "Red Mercury" from the terrorist mercenary Vladimir Styanovich, who goes by the alias "Vlady the Vicious" and is based in a seaside Syrian city. As soon as they insert, their Black Hawk is downed, forcing the team to battle through the city streets in pursuit of Vlady. Though Hayden arrives too late to prevent Vlady from fleeing in a helicopter, he manages to cripple the rotor blades with gunfire. As Vlady escapes over the ocean, he declares he won't be anyone's martyr and tries to disarm the bomb, claiming he wants to "re-evaluate" his options. Unfortunately, the device reactivates moments later. Vlady abandons the bomb on the helicopter and dives into the sea in a desperate bid to avoid the explosion. The resulting shockwave from the nuke kills Vlady, sinks the U.S. aircraft carrier that served as Hayden's command post, destroys the extraction helicopter, and renders Hayden's team unconscious.
