The setting is inspired by Lovecraft but doesn't belong to any of his established universes. The story begins shortly after the events of Doom 2, where the Doomguy successfully banished Hell. What remained unknown, however, was the existence of an even more terrifying and almost unimaginable force beyond our reality: the Elder Gods. Observing Hell's defeat, they believed their time had come to take control. Aware of the Doomguy's power, they devised a plan to strike where he was weakest—within his nightmares. Thus, SoTNR unfolds inside the Doomguy’s dreams, each one shaped and twisted by the will of the Elder Gods. The gameplay follows a classic Doom-style approach, featuring exploration and combat. A key distinction is that at the start of each map, your inventory is reset and your health is restored. After all, each map represents a different dream. The total package includes six maps: three main levels, one hidden level, one boss level, and a Quake-style introductory map.
