Storyline

At the yearly Relics Hunters Expo, Shantae and her friends watch as her Uncle Mimic reveals his latest discovery: a seemingly plain lamp encased in stone. Curious about its significance, Risky Boots and her crew burst in and make off with the lamp. Shantae tries to stop her but is defeated and knocked out, letting Risky escape. Blaming Shantae for the chaos in town and her failure to perform her duties, Mayor Scuttlebutt fires her from her role as Scuttle Town’s Guardian. Even though she’s no longer a Guardian Genie, Shantae still chooses to take action to stop Risky Boots’ latest scheme. Mimic tells Shantae that three hidden magical seals are needed to unlock the lamp’s power, and she sets out to find them. With the help of her friend, the zombie Rottytops, she discovers that the seals are in the hands of three treasure hunters known as the Barons of Sequin Land, who she must face to retrieve them. As Shantae tracks down the Barons, Risky deceives Rottytops and his brothers into capturing Mimic, offering them a lifetime supply of coffee to keep them sane—and specifically, Shantae’s brain for Rottytops. Shantae, now in possession of the three seals, arrives just as Risky exposes her trickery. Shantae gives up the seals in exchange for Mimic’s safety. Risky then pulls Shantae’s magical half into the lamp, revealing its ability to trap and enslave genies. She releases the captured magic as the malevolent Nega-Shantae and commands it to destroy Shantae. Shantae fights back and defeats her dark doppelgänger, escaping as Risky’s lair crumbles. She reunites with her friends, who vow to help her protect Scuttle Town and adjust to her new life as a human. Impressed by her dedication, Mayor Scuttlebutt reappoints her as the town’s Guardian.
