Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner Special Box is a remastered version of the original 1995 Devil Summoner title, featuring bug fixes. The package includes Devil Summoner: Akuma Zensho and a mini disc containing interviews and music related to the game. As the first 32-bit entry in the Shin Megami Tensei series, Devil Summoner launched on the Saturn in Japan in 1995 and was never made available in the United States. In 2005, it was re-released for the PSP, once again exclusively in Japan. Departing from the post-apocalyptic setting of the main series, the game is set in contemporary Japan. The protagonist is an unnamed college student who, along with his girlfriend, is attacked by demons. They are rescued by Kyouji, a charismatic demon hunter. Soon after, Kyouji is discovered dead under mysterious conditions. The main character is then captured in a warehouse and killed by a disturbed murderer named Sid. Instead of remaining deceased, the player awakens inside Kyouji's reanimated body and escapes the morgue. Guided by Kyouji's voice in his mind, the protagonist teams up with Kyouji's female partner, Rei, to rescue his girlfriend, who remains in peril.
