Summary

Gamers have long awaited a new entry in the Shinobi series, and now their wish has finally come true. Set in Tokyo, Shinobi follows a world overtaken by a sinister and mysterious power, and it's up to you to put an end to it. You take on the role of Hotsuma, the leader of the Oboro Clan. As the sole survivor of his once-proud clan, Hotsuma must now battle against the very men he once called brothers, as they rise against him under the influence of this dark force.

Storyline

The game consists of eight stages, each divided into two parts, with bosses scattered throughout. The control system lets you dash attack jump and throw shurikens. A lock-on function is also included. It's worth mentioning that there are several hidden mechanics such as holding the attack button during lock-on to perform a charged strike double-jumping and throwing a shuriken to unleash a shuriken burst and a stun kick achieved by pressing down and attack while locked on. The primary goal in each level is to eliminate enemies. There's no need to collect items, but the ninjutsu scrolls can be useful, and certain stages require Hotsuma to destroy stone pillars to progress. Shinobi also includes combo mechanics. One such mechanic is the "tate" kill, which triggers a cutscene where all enemies are eliminated at once and more Yin is dropped for your blade when enemies are killed in succession. Another feature is that as Hotsuma dispatches enemies with his cursed sword "Akujiki," the blade changes colors to reflect varying damage multipliers.
