Two years have passed since Arnold and Sonya became Shockmen. A message from the professor urging them to return to their original bodies leads them back to his lab, but they are attacked by an unknown foe on the way. After barely overcoming the enemy, they catch a TV report about the Ryo Empire's invasion. They soon discover the professor has been captured and set off to save him. Shockman is a side-scrolling action shooter featuring eight stages, including Action Stages where you leap and perform special moves, and Shooting Stages with side-scrolling combat. The game builds upon the tightly woven story of the previous title and introduces cooperative gameplay elements such as shared health and a powerful Team Shockbeam that can be unleashed during two-player co-op.
Shockman takes place roughly two years after the original Kaizou Choujin Shubibinman. Arnold, known as Tasuke in the Japanese version, is no longer a student and now works as a chef at a local eatery. Sonya, or Kyapiko in the Japanese version, continues her studies. Ever since the defeat of the Dark Skull, Doc has remained convinced that another invasion is on the horizon, sending Arnold and Sonya on missions to track down potential threats, though they've found nothing. But when Doc is suddenly captured, Arnold and Sonya discover that an alien empire led by Ryo is plotting to conquer the world. In addition, two new villains with powers similar to Arnold and Sonya have emerged: dark versions of Shubibinman named Jeeta and Mue. Now, Arnold and Sonya must rescue Doc, stop Ryo's world domination plans, and stay alive against Jeeta and Mue.
