Summary
Set during the Sengoku Jidai (Warring States) era from the 15th to early 17th century, Shogun: Total War is a real-time tactics and turn-based strategy game that emphasizes historical accuracy. Players take on the role of a daimyo, the leader of a Japanese clan, striving to unify the country and earn the title of Shogun—the supreme military commander of Japan. The game features two distinct gameplay styles: a turn-based, Risk-like mode on a 2D campaign map of Japan, where players manage armies, engage in diplomacy, trade, and conduct espionage, sabotage, and assassinations. While the 2D map provides the strategic framework, the core of the game lies in the 3D real-time battles that erupt whenever your forces enter enemy territory or clash with opposing armies on the campaign map.
Storyline
Japan 1542 — A land torn apart by conflict. A resolute warlord will harness the Art Of War and command his fierce Samurai forces in a ruthless campaign to unify the nation. He will ascend to the highest power in Japan. He will become SHOGUN.
