The Limited Edition of Sonic Adventure was an early version of the game sent to stores and rental outlets before its official release and did not feature any additional content. History: The Limited Edition of Sonic Adventure was first given out to around 400 Funcoland locations as a disc-only version intended for use in Dreamcast kiosks that were advertising the console's upcoming launch. These discs contained a shortened version of the game based on the Japanese release and had saving and online features turned off, along with other small differences; they were also known to have technical issues. Later, a different version of the release was sent to Hollywood Video as part of a pre-launch promotion that allowed customers to rent the game along with a console before its official debut. This version of the game included the ability to save progress and came with a case and manual. The disc, manual cover, and case spine all labeled the version as “Limited Edition,” and the artwork was slightly different from the regular edition. Because it was only available through a rental chain, many of the original cases were lost or damaged and later replaced in full or in part with standard edition cases or manuals. Additionally, many discs were marked with a “Hollywood Video” security sticker.
Dr. Robotnik is determined to find a new method to overcome his arch-rival Sonic and take over the world. In his research, he discovers a being known as Chaos—a creature that, millennia ago, helped safeguard the Chao and the mighty Master Emerald, which maintains the balance of the seven Chaos Emeralds. When a group of echidnas attempted to steal the Emeralds' power, disrupting the harmony between them and the Chao, Chaos responded by harnessing the Emeralds to transform into a colossal monster, Perfect Chaos, and annihilate them. Before it could devastate the world, Tikal, a young echidna who had formed a bond with Chaos, sealed it away inside the Master Emerald—along with herself. Now, Eggman has freed Chaos, and Sonic and his allies must stop Robotnik's schemes and keep the monster from gaining even more strength.
