Spider-Man 3 for PlayStation 2 and Wii is a video game inspired by the 2007 film of the same name. The gameplay on these versions is very similar to the next-gen edition, with the key distinction being that most of the combat occurs on foot rather than in mid-air. The standout feature of the Wii version is its use of motion controls. By moving the Wii Remote and Nunchuck, players can carry out a range of actions, including fighting and using Spider-Man’s signature move, web swinging. The game also includes mini-games specifically designed to take advantage of the motion controls.
The game's narrative begins with a tutorial mission where Spider-Man stops the H-Bombers from detonating the Carlyle building. The following day, he explores mysterious lizard-like creatures in Central Park and continues his fight against the H-Bombers, stopping their efforts to destroy the Daily Bugle's Printing Plant and Regional Office. That night, during a conversation with Mary Jane in Central Park, an alien symbiote from a meteor latches onto Peter's shoe. After dropping Mary Jane off, Peter is ambushed by Harry, who has transformed into the "New Goblin" to seek revenge for his father's death. Peter overcomes Harry, takes him to the hospital, and returns home, where the symbiote wraps around him, forming a black Spider-Man suit that boosts his powers and intensifies his aggression. At the same time, a fugitive named Flint Marko becomes the Sandman after an accident with an experimental particle accelerator merges him with sand. The next day, the H-Bombers launch an attack on the Daily Bugle and capture J. Jonah Jameson, but Spider-Man rescues him. He then faces and defeats the Bombers' leader, Luke Carlyle, a former businessman turned criminal after a Jameson article ruined his company. Later, Peter looks into the disappearance of his science teacher, Dr. Curt Connors, and finds out that he has become the Lizard through experiments with a lizard DNA serum. Chasing the Lizard through the sewers, Spider-Man discovers that he has altered others into similar creatures with plans to take over New York. Spider-Man thwarts the plan, but the Lizard escapes deeper into the tunnels. When Spider-Man runs into the Lizard again, he finds him in a battle with Kraven the Hunter. Spider-Man steps in, defeats Kraven, and overpowers the Lizard, restoring Connors to his human form. As Spider-Man helps cure the others affected by the transformation, Connors assists him in studying the symbiote's potential after he fully recovers. A story assignment from Jameson leads Spider-Man to confront a vampire, whom he defeats and brings to Connors. Connors recognizes the vampire as Dr. Michael Morbius, a famous biochemist. Morbius says his transformation was caused by his wife Shriek, whom Spider-Man tracks down and defeats. However, she escapes, and Spider-Man later fights Shriek's gang, the Waste Tribe. He eventually locates Shriek and brings Morbius to her in hopes of a cure, but she turns Morbius against Spider-Man instead. After defeating Morbius, Spider-Man confronts Shriek, using the symbiote to counter her abilities. Defeated, Shriek uses her powers to cure Morbius before slipping into a coma. Spider-Man leaves her in Morbius' and Connors' care and moves on. Later, Peter discovers that Eddie Brock has been pretending to be a black-suited Spider-Man to frame him and get a promotion. After embarrassing Brock as Spider-Man, Peter reveals the plot and earns the promotion, prompting Brock to vow revenge against both Spider-Man and Peter. As public concern grows over Spider-Man's aggressive behavior while in the symbiote suit, he decides to retire it. However, he spots Marko robbing an armored van and chases him into the subway. Unable to stop Marko, Spider-Man puts on the symbiote suit and is overwhelmed by its aggression. Discovering water as Marko's weakness, Spider-Man breaks a pipe, releasing water that turns Marko into sand. Later that night, the symbiote's influence unsettles Mary Jane during their date and a run-in with robbers. Peter realizes the suit is affecting his behavior and goes to a nearby church to remove it. He succeeds thanks to the church bell's sonic vibrations, which weaken the symbiote. However, the creature attaches itself to Brock, who had followed Spider-Man to the church. As Venom, Brock, now aware of Peter's identity, blackmails Marko into helping him kill Spider-Man by threatening Marko's daughter. They kidnap Mary Jane to draw Spider-Man out, but Harry, now recovered, comes to the rescue. Harry saves Mary Jane and Marko's daughter and helps Spider-Man defeat Marko before Venom tries to kill him. Spider-Man defeats Venom using sonic vibrations to weaken him, and Brock presumably dies as the symbiote leaves his body. After these events, Spider-Man mends things with Mary Jane, and Marko is reunited with his daughter. He apologizes to Spider-Man and leaves peacefully. The game ends with Spider-Man continuing his fight against crime, highlighting that the best way to honor and remember his loved ones is by never giving up on being Spider-Man.
