Squirrel King is an unauthorized platformer created for the Sega Mega Drive. It was both developed and published by Gamtec, making its roots traceable to Taiwan. Squirrel King bears a striking resemblance to Capcom's Chip 'N Dale: Rescue Rangers and its follow-up, Chip 'N Dale: Rescue Rangers 2, on the NES, to the extent that the player controls two characters named "Chip" and "Dale" (although they appear somewhat different from their Disney originals). The controls are straightforward: C is for jumping, B lets you pick up and toss crates, and A enables Chip or Dale to launch fireballs, provided they have any in their inventory. Squirrel King also served as the inspiration for another unauthorized game, Super Mario World, also made for the Mega Drive, developed by Chuanpu and potentially published by Ming Super Chip Electronic.
