Star Parodier is a vertical scrolling shooter similar to the Star Soldier series, incorporating many of the same gameplay elements such as gathering power-ups to enhance the player's weapons and battling a variety of bosses and mini-bosses throughout the game. It also includes the 2 and 5 minute high score time attack modes that were present in earlier titles. In a humorous twist on the serious sci-fi vibe of the Star Soldier games, Star Parodier adopts a lighthearted and whimsical style with its cute, cartoonish visuals and reduced violence—defeated enemies, for instance, raise white flags in surrender. Players can choose from three different ships: the Paro Ceaser from Star Soldier, a large flying Bomberman, or an anthropomorphic PC Engine console that fires HuCards and CD-ROMs at enemies. The game was initially released exclusively in Japan, although it was also planned for a North American release under the title Fantasy Star Soldier.
