Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron is the fourth entry in the Star Wars: Battlefront series and the second title exclusive to handheld consoles, following Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron. The Nintendo DS version of Elite Squadron employs an isometric perspective, reminiscent of a contemporary dungeon crawler. Unlike previous Battlefront titles, Instant Action mode is played with just four participants, typically one representative from each faction. The single-player story follows an elite clone trooper named "X2," genetically engineered from the DNA of a Jedi Master. After the rise of the Galactic Empire, X2 aligns with the Rebel Alliance and participates in key conflicts of the Galactic Civil War. Later, he serves the New Republic and trains as a Jedi, while confronting his clone "brother" X1, who has turned to the dark side and become a Sith. The campaign is set within the Star Wars Legends universe, which is no longer considered official canon, and includes appearances by characters from the films and other Star Wars media, such as Luke Skywalker and Rahm Kota.
