Star Wars: X-Wing
Summary
Star Wars: X-Wing is the inaugural LucasArts DOS computer game within the Star Wars universe and serves as the flagship title in the X-Wing combat flight simulator series. In the game, players take control of starfighters, such as the iconic X-wing, fighting for the Rebel Alliance in a storyline that takes place before and alongside the events of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.
Storyline
Players take on the role of a Rebel pilot opposing the Galactic Empire in the events leading up to and during the pivotal battle of the original Star Wars movie. The story is divided into three tours of duty, each consisting of 12 to 14 missions. While the tours can be tackled in any order, the missions within each tour must be completed sequentially. Plot progression is supported by briefings, cutscenes, and in-flight communications. A special limited edition of the game included a 96-page novella titled *The Farlander Papers* by Rusel DeMaria, which offers additional narrative details. Later incorporated into Prima Publishing's strategy guide, the novella introduces the pilot Keyan Farlander as the player's main character throughout most of the missions.
