Summary
Stellar Track is a text-driven, turn-based strategy game in which players command a Terran Super Warship tasked with eliminating alien vessels from every quadrant of a galaxy. It was an adaptation of a college mainframe Star Trek game released by Sears in 1981. The game is intentionally basic, requiring players to conduct scans to detect enemy ships and starbases on a 6 x 6 grid representing the galaxy. After identifying enemies, players must warp to their quadrant and engage them using either phasers or photon torpedoes. A joystick is used to input the numerical coordinates of the player's intended destination.
Storyline
Despite their high achievements in art, philosophy, and science, the Terran race lacks hyperwarp drive technology, which is essential for interplanetary travel. The Terrans were discovered by extraterrestrial beings who offered to trade their hyperwarp technology in exchange for Terran artistic and scientific works. Tensions between the aliens and the Terrans arose as both races began vying for wealth. In response, the Terran government constructed an impenetrable Starfleet and two powerful Galactic Starbases to defend against the aliens, and they recruited a commander for their Super Warship to lead the charge against the extraterrestrial threat.
