Stick Hunter: Exciting Ice Hockey is a Famicom title that was released exclusively in Japan in 1987 and never made its way to North America. It marks the first true ice hockey game developed for a Nintendo console. The game supports either one player facing off against the AI or two players competing head-to-head. Players can customize the duration of each period and adjust the difficulty level to suit their skill. In the game, when a character has the puck, they can skate faster and shoot only in the direction they're facing. This means that to pass to a teammate, the character must be oriented toward that player. The same rule applies when shooting at the net — the character must be facing the opposing goal to take a shot. Characters without the puck can only increase their skating speed. If the goalie has the puck, they are also limited to passing it to a teammate in their line of sight. Just like in real ice hockey, the goal is to outscore the opposing team.
