Summary
Super Breakout is an arcade game developed by Atari and launched in 1978. Powered by a Motorola M6502 processor operating at 375 KHz, it serves as a follow-up to Breakout, which came out two years prior. The game features three distinct gameplay modes: Double Breakout, which includes fifty-two orange blocks (worth 5-14 points), fifty-two green blocks (1-6 points), two paddles, and two balls; Cavity Breakout, which has forty-four orange blocks (7-21 points), fifty-two green blocks (1-9 points), one paddle, and three balls (with the second and third needing to be released before they can be used); and Progressive Breakout, which consists of fifty-two blue blocks (7 points) and fifty-two green blocks (5 points), one paddle, and one ball. In this mode, the blocks gradually descend toward the paddle, with the speed determined by how often the ball hits the paddle. As the ball breaks the blocks, new rows appear at the top of the screen and fall faster over time. Progressive Breakout is also the only mode in which players can theoretically earn an unlimited number of points, though the score will reset once it reaches 10,000.
