Summary
Super R.C. Pro-Am is a racing video game that shares many similarities with its NES predecessor, R.C. Pro-Am. In the game, players control remote-controlled cars as they race through a variety of tracks. The game supports single-player mode, two-player gameplay using the Game Link Cable, or three to four players using the Four Player Adapter. It includes 24 tracks that progressively increase in difficulty, and the goal is to finish in the top three to qualify for the next race. If a player doesn't place in the top three, they can continue and try the track again. Players are given three continues, and the game ends when a player fails to finish in the top three with no continues left. Each track is unique, ranging from simple ovals to complex layouts filled with twists and turns. The game features a variety of obstacles, including oil slicks that cause players to spin out, puddles that make cars slide, sand traps and "slow cones" that reduce speed, large cones that stop cars completely, and tire walls that players can bounce off. If a player hits an oil slick and then collides with a wall while still spinning, their car is temporarily destroyed, resulting in a time penalty. The tracks also include helpful items: "zippers" (a pattern of chevrons) provide speed boosts, roll cages let players crash into walls without damage and can be used to force opponents into walls, and missiles and bombs can temporarily disable other racers' cars. Along the way, players can collect spare parts that enhance performance—tires improve grip, batteries boost acceleration, and engines increase top speed. Players can upgrade their cars by collecting letters scattered across the tracks. By spelling out "Nintendo" with these letters, players unlock a better vehicle. They can progress from the "Racer" to the "Speed Demon" and finally to the Spiker, each offering improved performance over the last. If a player spells "Nintendo" while using the Spiker, they win the game.
