Summary

The abandoned colony of Alterra is a fully artificial lifeworld, long forsaken in a neighboring galaxy. In truth, Alterra consists of five distinct colonies, each a self-sustaining habitat engineered by a powerful ecosystem generator known as the Multiple Organism Unit Link—MORGUL, for short. The original settlers used MORGUL to make the planet livable, but a massive quake disrupted all system functions, triggering MORGUL's violent rebellion. Those few colonists who managed to flee spoke of a once-intelligent system that had lost all control. For centuries, humanity dreamed of reclaiming Alterra. At last, genetic science produced a hero: Turrican, a mutant warrior specifically bio-engineered for the mission of planetary restoration. Meanwhile, MORGUL has been relentlessly mutating Alterran life to serve its own ruthless agenda. Turrican’s mission is to clear hostile creatures from the five layered worlds of Alterra and ultimately defeat the three manifestations of MORGUL.
