Sutte Hakkun is a puzzle action platformer where players control Hakkun, a beak-heavy bird similar to a penguin who can walk and jump but not fly. The Rainbow of Happiness once glimmered above the Peaceful Islands, but one day it shattered, and now Hakkun must search out, gather, and reassemble all the rainbow crystals to restore it. The game's mechanics revolve around two key components: blocks and potions, the latter available in multiple colors. Hakkun progresses through levels by swallowing and relocating blocks, and by using his beak to inject potions from jars into blocks, altering their properties based on the potion's color. A level is completed once all the rainbow shards within it are collected. There are no time limits or enemies to hinder Hakkun's journey. The scoring system is also unique: each level starts with a set number of points, which decrease with every move, encouraging players to complete levels using as few moves as possible. This original version was later re-released as the expanded "Event Version," which introduced a ranking system, followed by two additional "Event Versions" for the Satellaview. Another expanded edition, also titled Sutte Hakkun, was released as a Nintendo Power downloadable game, featuring numerous levels omitted from the Satellaview version due to the 8MB Memory Pak limitation. This version was later made available as a Super Famicom standard cartridge, as well as on the Wii and Wii U Virtual Consoles.
Far across the ocean on a distant island, the "Rainbow of Happiness" once arched beautifully over the land. One day, without warning, the rainbow shattered, scattering its pieces across the island. Determined to restore its former glory, Hakkun embarks on a journey to collect the scattered shards.
