Sword of Vermilion follows the journey of the son of Erik, king of Excalabria, as he embarks on a mission for vengeance to overthrow Tsarkon and liberate the world of Vermilion from darkness. King Erik V and King Tsarkon were once close allies who searched for the 16 rings of good and evil in an effort to restore peace and harmony to their land. But the rings of evil corrupted King Tsarkon, who then led his forces from Cartahena to attack Excalabria. The defenders were no match, and the castle of King Erik V was destroyed. In his final moments, Erik V called upon his most loyal and courageous warrior, Blade, to entrust him with his newborn son and the family's ancient treasure, the Ring of Wisdom. Erik V commanded Blade to protect the child and escape as the castle burned around them. The remaining rings of good were scattered across the land by King Tsarkon to prevent anyone from reuniting them. Tsarkon transformed the infant prince’s mother into stone and dedicated all of Cartahena’s might to capturing the boy. Blade took the child to a quiet village called Wyclif, where he raised him as his own. Eighteen years later, the prince of Erik begins his journey after discovering his true heritage on Blade’s deathbed. The adventure involves exploring towns and villages, fighting enemies to earn experience, and collecting items like swords, shields, and armor, along with other useful objects such as Herbs and Candles. Powerful boss monsters appear as larger, more formidable foes whose battles are key to the story. These encounters take place in a side-scrolling format where magic is not available.
