As the title suggests, this is the home adaptation of the arcade rail-shooter inspired by the movie Terminator 2: Judgement Day. Up to two players battle through futuristic and modern-day stages as reprogrammed robotic assassins aiding the human resistance. Each player is armed with a machine gun that has unlimited ammunition but slows down in firing speed when used continuously, simulating overheating. A secondary weapon—missile launchers in the future and shotguns in the present—is available with limited ammo but delivers significant damage. Collectible power-ups scattered throughout the game include extra secondary weapon ammunition and coolant for the machine guns, which are obtained by shooting them. T2: The Arcade Game includes seven levels inspired by key scenes or themes from the film. The initial four levels serve as an introduction, with players eliminating waves of metallic Terminators across a ruined Battlefield, a threatened Human Hideout, and through the security defenses of the enemy supercomputer SkyNet. After the computer is destroyed, players are transported back in time to defend John and Sarah Connor while also eliminating all traces of SkyNet research at the company's headquarters. The final challenge involves fending off the unstoppable T-1000 until the climactic battle in the Steel Mill. Movie assets are incorporated where possible, including voice lines from Arnold Schwarzenegger and detailed digital images of Robert Patrick for the showdown against the T-1000. The Genesis and SNES versions also feature support for lightguns—the Menacer and Super Scope, respectively.
