Summary

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2003) is a beat 'em up video game inspired by the 2003 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series, aligning with several episodes from the first season. Players can choose to control Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo, or Raphael, each offering distinct levels to complete. The game features a story mode for one or two players, as well as a versus mode allowing two players to battle against each other. In versus mode, characters include all four Turtles, Splinter, Casey Jones, Hamato Yoshi, The Turtlebot, Hun, Oroku Saki, and The Shredder. A Challenge mode becomes available after defeating Oroku Saki using any Turtle in the Story Mode, and completing this unlocks access to Hamato Yoshi and his training dojo.

Storyline

The core gameplay loosely follows these Season One episodes: "Things Change," "A Better Mouse Trap," "Attack of the Mousers," "Meet Casey Jones," "Nano," "Darkness on the Edge of Town," "The Way of Invisibility," "Notes From the Underground" (Parts 1-3), and "Return to New York" (Parts 1-3), as well as one level that has no connection to the animated series. Shortly after a squad of mouser robots obliterate the turtles' old lair, they set out to find a new place to live. Michelangelo's constant teasing eventually pushes Raphael to his limit, prompting him to head to the surface. There, he runs into Purple Dragon gang members, Casey Jones, and their leader, Dragonface. Soon after, Baxter Stockman deploys invisible Foot Clan ninjas to kidnap Raphael, forcing Donatello to mount a rescue mission. Later, while Raphael and Michelangelo playfully fight, Donatello examines a mysterious crystal he discovered in their old home, observing that it resembles mutated brain cells. During the sparring, Raphael accidentally sends Michelangelo crashing into a wall, revealing a hidden tunnel behind it. The crystal begins to glow, catching the turtles' attention, and they decide to explore it. As they venture through the tunnel, they encounter genetically altered humans. After a series of battles with these mutants, the turtles learn that the creatures were transformed by Shredder's former scientists. The crystals Donatello found are the only things keeping the mutants alive, trapping them underground. The mutants beg the turtles to stop Shredder, so no one else will endure their suffering. The turtles vow to end Shredder for good and promise to return if they ever find a way to cure the mutants.
