Summary
Tenchu: Stealth Assassins is an action-adventure stealth title created by Acquire and released in Japan by Sony Music Entertainment Japan and globally by Activision for the PlayStation in 1998. The game is celebrated for its stealth mechanics and its atmospheric depiction of feudal Japan. Tenchu was among the earliest ninja-themed games to emphasize stealth, a core component of ninjutsu. In addition to showcasing traditional martial arts in combat, the game blends historical fantasy and elements of Japanese mythology. It also utilized motion capture technology, with actor and martial artist Sho Kosugi and his son Kane providing the movements for the game’s fighting sequences.
Storyline
Set in feudal Japan, the game follows two ninja—Rikimaru (力丸) and Ayame (彩女)—who have been part of the Azuma ninja clan since they were young. They serve the noble Lord Gohda, acting as his covert agents to combat corruption and collect information across his territory. But the sinister demon sorcerer Lord Mei-Oh is determined to overthrow Lord Gohda, using his fearsome demon warrior Onikage to spread chaos and destruction throughout the province.
