Terminal Velocity is a simulation video game that functions as an arcade-style aerial combat experience, featuring more straightforward controls and physics than traditional flight simulators. It stands out for its rapid, high-octane action, offering a more intense and dynamic alternative to the flight simulators available at the time.
The narrative takes place in 2704, when the ASFAR (Alliance of Space-Faring Alien Races), of which Earth is a part, unexpectedly turns hostile and attacks the planet with its massive fleet, igniting a war. The player pilots the advanced starfighter, TV-202, through a series of missions aimed at repelling the invaders. In Episode 3, it is discovered that a massive supercomputer called X.I. (Xenocidic Initiative), situated on Proxima Seven, is behind the conflict. The player's ultimate objective is to destroy it. A secret mission becomes available only in the CD-ROM version after the main story concludes, in which the player must explore the sudden transformation of an uncharted nearby planet and eliminate the force responsible for its drastic change. It is uncovered that this force caused a man named Sy Wickens to go mad and that the X.I. Supercomputer had "accidentally" digitized Sy Wickens' identity.
