The Combatribes is a 1990 beat 'em-up arcade game developed by Technos Japan Corp, the creators behind Renegade and Double Dragon. A version for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System was later released in 1992. The game follows three vigilantes—referred to as cyborgs in the SNES edition—who battle through various street gangs in a futuristic version of New York City. The SNES port became available on the Wii Virtual Console in North America on November 30, 2009. Some have viewed the game as a spiritual successor to the Double Dragon series.
In Combatribes, you and a friend take on the roles of battle-ready cyborgs Berzeker, Bullova, and Blitz (yes, those are their actual names) as they fight to dismantle the sinister criminal organization "Ground Zero" (later rebranded as "Guilty Zero" in North American releases), led by the cybernetically upgraded Martha Splatterhead and her henchmen.
