Seven years have passed since World War III, and only now do you feel it's safe to leave your shelter and explore what remains of the surface world. You take to the road in your specially modified vehicle, the Last V8, only to find that the outside is far more dangerous than you anticipated. Your mission, as instructed by a digitized voice at the start of each level, is to return to base as quickly as possible. The Last V8 is an overhead driving game in which you must navigate tight roads without colliding with anything, all while racing against the clock to reach your destination. This is made more challenging by the limited view you have of the road ahead—only a narrow strip of the screen shows your path, while two-thirds of the display is occupied by gauges such as speed, radiation levels, and mission goals. The control scheme differs from the standard Sprint style; instead, you steer by pushing the joystick in the direction you want to go and pull it the opposite way to slow down.
