The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel
Summary
The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel is the sixth main entry in the Trails series and marks the start of the Erebonia arc. The story centers on Rean Schwarzer and his classmates in "Class VII" at Thors Military Academy, a unique and newly established class that breaks tradition by not dividing students based on social status, instead bringing together both Erebonian nobles and commoners. The core gameplay remains largely the same as previous games, with a few notable additions. The most significant new feature is the "Tactical Link System," which introduces a fresh element to combat. This system lets players perform three distinct types of link attacks, boosting damage output and offering a range of additional advantages. As the story unfolds and characters grow stronger, the "Tactical Link" becomes increasingly valuable. By raising "Link Levels" with other characters, players unlock new abilities, such as healing allies or increasing a partner's CP gain.
Storyline
On the Zemurian continent, the formidable Erebonian Empire has swiftly asserted its dominance through military might, yet beneath the surface, political strife between the aristocracy and the rising common class has been growing increasingly volatile. For years, the Noble and Reformist Factions have clashed with little mercy, and without swift reconciliation, their discord is poised to escalate further. Rean Schwarzer, like all citizens of the Empire, has lived under the shadow of this class divide, a system ingrained in Erebonian society for generations. As a seventeen-year-old about to begin his studies at Thors Military Academy, he becomes acutely aware of his unique position when he notices that his uniform—crimson, unlike the standard green for commoners or the pristine white for nobles—sets him apart from his classmates. This is where Class VII of Thors Military Academy comes in. For the first time in the academy’s storied history, hierarchy is disregarded and ability is the sole measure of worth. Comprised of nine carefully selected students from diverse backgrounds and with varied talents, including Rean, Class VII is about to step into the heart of a political maelstrom that threatens not only their futures, but the fate of the Empire itself.
