The Lost World: Jurassic Park is an action-adventure video game created by Appaloosa Interactive and released by Sega for the Sega Genesis. It is based on the movie of the same title, which itself is adapted from the novel by Michael Crichton. Unlike earlier Jurassic Park games on the Genesis, this title uses a top-down perspective similar to the Super NES version of Jurassic Park. In the game, players take control of an unnamed character tasked with capturing dinosaurs on Isla Sorna while preventing rival hunters from moving them to the mainland. The game includes nineteen missions divided into four island regions known as Sites One through Four. To progress to the next Site, players must complete a boss level at the end of each one. A second player can join as Ian Malcolm in Cooperative Mode, or the two can compete against each other in Competitive Mode. Players can use weapons like a taser, tranquilizer gun, shotgun, and grenades to fight both hunters and dinosaurs. Occasionally, players can also take control of vehicles such as an SUV or a hovercraft.
As a hunter (Player 1) and Ian Malcolm (Player 2), the player is dispatched to Isla Sorna by InGen to capture dinosaur specimens and confront another team of hunters—whose allegiance, whether to Peter Ludlow, Biosyn, or poaching operations, remains unclear.
