The console editions of The Sims 2 introduced local split-screen multiplayer, a story mode, and the ability to directly control characters, deviating from the usual method of queuing actions. In this video game, children and aging are not possible, and all characters are adults (excluding elders), although marriage is still an option. To unlock rewards, you must earn aspiration points by completing your "goals," which are also essential for progressing through story mode. Story mode consists of multiple levels with developed storylines, each character presenting specific desires tied to their narrative. Additionally, there is a sandbox mode where you can either join a pre-made family or create your own.
Sims can visit 12 unique locations spread across Pleasantview, Strangetown, and Melbourne as they progress through the game. To access each new destination, players need to complete a Golden Want, which functions as a special mission-style Want.
