The Sims is a life-simulation game that focuses on the personal lives and detailed experiences of individual characters, rather than the development of a whole society or civilization. You have control over nearly every aspect of the lives of the people in your chosen neighborhood. Each character is built from scratch, and you shape their personality, appearance, desires, moods, needs, living situations, career paths, personal decisions, lifestyle, and how they respond to the world around them. The Sims: Double Deluxe includes The Sims: Deluxe Edition (two CDs containing The Sims, The Sims: Livin' Large, The Sims Creator, and exclusive Deluxe Edition content: 25+ objects and 50+ clothing items), The Sims: House Party, and a special Double Deluxe content CD (featuring exclusive African and Asian-themed skins, objects, walls, and flooring, plus a collection of downloadable content from the official website).
In *The Sims*, management is all about making key decisions. From arranging the physical environment to shaping your Sims' moods, emotions, and abilities, you'll be deeply involved in every aspect of their daily routines. Activities include purchasing and placing distinctive items in homes and workplaces, replacing or selling worn-out furniture, and generally constructing and maintaining the world your Sims inhabit. You'll steer your Sims through various stages of personal growth, and the relationships between them are shaped entirely by your influence—this affects how they interact and communicate with one another. *The Sims* offers ten different career paths for your working Sims to pursue, with each career requiring specific skills to advance. Each of these ten careers has ten levels of progression, allowing your Sims to climb the ranks in their chosen fields. Your Sims may face challenges such as floods, fires, and break-ins. Issues like neglect, hunger, exhaustion, or failing to meet basic needs can impact your Sims and even halt their progress entirely. Death is a possible outcome, and whole families can be lost due to severe neglect or starvation.
