Tokoro-san no Mamorumo Semerumo is an action platformer developed under Sony's Sony Epic Records label and released exclusively in Japan on June 27, 1987. The game is named after and features the real-life Japanese celebrity Tokoro Jouji. In this game, real-life Japanese musician, comedian, and voice actor Tokoro Jouji, also known as George Tokoro, takes center stage. Equipped with a water pistol that has a limited water supply, Tokoro-san must navigate through multiple levels, either by shooting or dodging the various enemies he encounters. The game is infamous for its questionable design choices, such as hidden ammo-replenishing items that force players to shoot randomly in order to locate them, ultimately depleting their already limited ammunition more quickly. If the player lingers too long in a single level, a massive storm appears, severely impairing visibility and making the gameplay significantly more challenging. Despite these issues, the game does showcase an early form of non-linear progression, where different paths open up after defeating each level's boss.
