Tomb Raider II: Gold is an enhanced edition of Tomb Raider II, featuring all the original game's scenarios plus five additional bonus levels in a standalone mini-adventure called the "Golden Mask." Unlike the other two expanded versions, this game does not share a story connection with its counterpart in the main Tomb Raider series. Instead, it offers an entirely original storyline.
Lara Croft stumbles upon several intriguing clues pointing to a remote island in the Bering Sea: a worn photograph depicting an Inuit whale hunter holding what appears to be an ancient Golden Mask, a 1945 newspaper article about a dispute over a gold find in Alaska, and references to a hidden, fortified military mining base. Lara is especially drawn to the Mask, as legends claim it to be the fabled Golden Mask of Tornarsuk—a powerful spirit said to grant the ability to reanimate the dead to whoever wears it.
