Tomba!
Summary
Tomba! is a side-scrolling platform game where players take control of Tomba, a spirited young boy on a quest to recover his grandfather’s stolen bangle from a group of mischievous pigs. While Tomba typically moves within a two-dimensional world, there are specific moments where he can leap or climb into a new plane. Tomba’s primary way to attack is by jumping onto enemies to grab them, letting him bounce around on them before tossing them aside. This technique can also be used to interact with objects like eggs or treasure chests. Tomba can also wield a variety of projectile weapons, including maces and boomerangs, and he can swing from branches and poles. The game is built around a mission-based structure, where Tomba uses his abilities to accomplish different tasks. Completing a mission earns a set number of adventure points (AP), which are needed to unlock AP boxes containing food (which restores vitality and gives AP) or other items. For example, you might need 50,000 AP to open a single box. AP is also essential for accessing special areas or information later in the game. While not every mission is required to move forward in the story, they are necessary for achieving 100% completion. The game features 130 events (missions), many of which depend on completing other events first.
Storyline
Tomba! takes place on a mysterious cluster of islands located in the middle of an uncharted ocean. The region consists of large northern provinces and smaller southern isles, inhabited by a peaceful people who have lived in harmony for generations. Once a lush and vibrant land filled with birds and thriving plantations, the islands have since been transformed. The hero is a lively young boy with pink hair named Tomba (known as Tombi in Europe). One fateful day, seven wicked pigs arrive, using their magical abilities to twist the environment into a strange and surreal world. The minions of the Evil Pigs, the Koma Pigs, steal Tomba's grandfather's cherished bracelet and a large amount of gold, driven by an unnatural greed. Tomba's mission is to recover his grandfather's bracelet, which requires capturing each of the Evil Pigs. To do this, he must find the Evil Pig Bags—special keys that grant access to each pig's domain. Along the way, Tomba also helps others by completing various tasks, some of which provide the necessary items and Evil Pig Bags. Certain side-quests are simply for enjoyment and do not directly impact the main story.
