UFC: Tapout is a combat-based video game inspired by the Ultimate Fighting Championship. It launched in North America on February 28, 2002, for the Xbox platform. The title was published by Crave Entertainment and developed by DreamFactory. The term "Tapout" refers to a fighter tapping the mat to signal submission during a submission hold. Alongside knockouts, judge decisions, and referee stoppages, a tapout is one of the primary ways a UFC match can conclude. The game includes numerous top UFC athletes like Matt Hughes, Chuck Liddell, Mark Coleman, Frank Shamrock, and Tito Ortiz. Players can choose from various game modes, including exhibition, tournament, arcade, and championship. Additional fighters, including two women and celebrity Ice-T, can be unlocked during gameplay. UFC: Tapout received mixed to average feedback from critics. A follow-up, UFC: Tapout 2, was released in 2003. While featuring an updated roster, the sequel is largely similar to its predecessor and was met with comparable reviews. Tapout 2 was published by TDK Mediactive. Both titles carry an ESRB T for Teen rating.
