Summary
UFO: Extraterrestrials is a Microsoft Windows title intended as a spiritual follow-up to the critically praised UFO: Enemy Unknown, known as X-COM: UFO Defense in North America. Created by Chaos Concept, the game introduces a new angle in which aliens have triumphed over humanity on Earth. The story unfolds on a colonized human world called Esperanza, where an alien menace has just made its appearance.
Storyline
Planet Esperanza - settled by the spaceship Magaleansh in 2020. Many years have passed since the first settlers arrived on Esperanza. Through perseverance and effort, they slowly established a foothold on their new world. Over time, leaders arose, a government was created, trade thrived, and the Earth-born pioneers eventually made the planet of the three suns their permanent home. But recently, a deep space sensor detected a powerful and enigmatic signal. Esperanza's scientists rushed to examine the anomaly and uncovered a shocking truth—a wormhole had appeared near their planet. Even more troubling, something had passed through it and was now heading straight for them. Fears of an alien invasion spread. In response, the United Government of Esperanza dispatched two reconnaissance vessels, Lewis and Clark, to investigate. After two weeks, the ships reached the source of the signal—and, as feared, found an alien craft. But it seemed the ship had malfunctioned during its journey to Esperanza. It had crash-landed on a nearby, small planet in the system. The crews of Lewis and Clark descended to the surface, explored the wreckage, and retrieved an alien computer and a chamber filled with hibernating aliens. Back on Esperanza, the Security Center conducted a thorough analysis of the computer and the aliens. What the military scientists uncovered was devastating—Earth had been overrun and conquered by alien forces. The invaders had stripped the planet of its resources and enslaved its people. An emergency council was immediately convened to determine the next course of action. The council swiftly concluded that the same fate that had befallen Earth could soon come to Esperanza. They vowed to be prepared if the aliens decided to attack. To defend against the threat, Esperanza brought together its finest scientists, engineers, and soldiers, forming a unified force—the Counter Alien Force (CAF). And it is on this force that the future survival of the human race now depends.
