Undercover Cops is an arcade-inspired beat 'em up video game created and released by Irem for arcades in 1992. It marks Irem's debut in the contemporary beat 'em up genre, which was pioneered by Data East’s Kung-Fu Master. In the game, players take on the role of "city sweepers," a law enforcement-like team tasked with combating crime by battling gangs in New York City during the year 2043.
Dr. Clayborn and his gang have seized control of the city, and Commissioner Gordon (yes, Batman is absent from this game) has issued a final call for assistance by summoning three of New York's Finest undercover officers: Bubba, a former pro football player; Flame, a past Miss America contestant; and Claude, a retired philosophy instructor. Their mission is to take down every henchman and defeat Dr. Clayborn to bring peace and justice back to the city. A highly enjoyable beat-em-up where nearly anything can serve as a weapon—fish, rocks, steel beams, cars, and more.
