Valkyria Chronicles 2 follows the events of the highly praised tactical RPG Valkyria Chronicles, which originally launched on the PS3. This sequel was developed exclusively for the PSP (PlayStation Portable) system and is set two years after the original game’s conclusion. It returns you to the grand adventure of a fictional 1930s European setting. In this installment, you take control of a group of young cadets from the Gallian Military Academy who are thrust into a brutal civil war after the Gallian Revolutionary Army launches a coup. As the conflict and story progress, you’ll witness themes of friendship, love, and personal growth amid the chaos of war and revolution. The 'CANVAS' engine, initially created by SEGA Game Studios Japan for Valkyria Chronicles, has been completely overhauled for the PSP. This visually striking engine brings to life more than 20 unique and breathtaking environments, each with over 200 missions to complete. For the first time, the game introduces ad-hoc Versus and Co-op multiplayer modes. The 'BLiTZ' battle system has also been reworked to give players the ability to move freely across the battlefield and engage enemies in real-time, a first for the tactical RPG genre. New unit classes have been added, along with the option to upgrade or switch classes. The battle system has also evolved to include multiple map zones that become accessible as you capture enemy bases, gradually revealing more of the battlefield and enabling you to summon units into those areas.
Set two years after the events of *Valkyria Chronicles*, the story centers on a civil war erupting within the small European nation of Gallia. A rebel faction composed of discontented nobles and allied soldiers and civilians, known as the Gallian Revolutionary Army, takes up arms to carry out an ethnic cleansing campaign targeting Gallians of Darcsen heritage. However, the brutal struggle against the Empire has left Gallia's standing military drained and ineffective, allowing the rebellion to gain strength at first. Strict laws banning the creation of a national militia to fight against Gallians themselves compel the government to send military academy trainees to the front lines in an effort to confront and crush the GRA forces.
