Summary
Wolfenstein 3D is a first-person shooter featuring basic 3D visuals and serves as a sequel to the overhead stealth game Castle Wolfenstein. The game consists of levels, each designed as a flat, grid-based layout of rooms and areas separated by walls and doors of uniform height. Every level is set in a Nazi fortress or structure. To complete a level, the player must navigate through the environment to find and reach an elevator. The levels are organized into themed episodes, with the final stage in each featuring a challenging boss battle. As the player moves through the levels, they must combat Nazi guards and troops, dogs, and other foes while carefully managing their ammunition and health supplies. Although later versions of the game included the Nocturnal Missions expansion, this original version did not.
Storyline
The game centers on B.J. Blazkowicz, an American spy during World War II, as he works to dismantle the Nazi regime. Wolfenstein 3D consists of two sets of three episodes. In "Escape," Blazkowicz is captured while searching for the blueprints of Operation Eisenfaust (Iron Fist) and locked up in Castle Wolfenstein, where he must break free. "Operation: Eisenfaust" sees him uncovering and stopping the Nazi scheme to build an army of undead mutants at Castle Hollehammer, while in "Die, Führer, Die!" he sneaks into a subterranean bunker beneath the Reichstag, leading to a showdown with Adolf Hitler in a mechanized suit armed with four chain guns.
