Summary

Storyline

The expansion follows the events of World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria and is set on Draenor, the ancestral world of the orcs before its destruction and the formation of Outland, as seen in Warcraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal, Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne, and World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade. Iconic figures from Warcraft history, including Grom Hellscream, Ner'zhul, and Blackhand, will make appearances. After the conclusion of Mists of Pandaria, Garrosh Hellscream is deposed as Warchief of the Horde by a joint Alliance-Horde force and is captured by the Pandaren to face trial for his crimes in Pandaria. However, before the trial can proceed, Garrosh breaks free and, with the help of a secret ally, journeys back in time to the orcish world of Draenor before the formation of the Horde. By stopping the orc clans from consuming the blood of the demon lord Mannoroth, he alters the timeline, preventing their corruption by the Burning Legion and changing the course of events from the first three games. The clans unite into an "Iron Horde," using technology from Garrosh's era, and launch a campaign of conquest on Draenor, constructing a Dark Portal to travel through time and attack Azeroth in the present.
