X: Beyond the Frontier is the first installment in the X-Universe series, developed by Egosoft. It follows the rise and eventual decline of humanity in space, and Kyle Brennan's mission to repopulate the stars using a new vessel, the Experimental Shuttle. Trapped within a confined network of sectors connected by jumpgates, Brennan owes a debt to an alien who saved his life and is pursued by multiple factions. Unbeknownst to him, a covert group of agents is also after him—individuals from a race that has kept a secret: they are the descendants of humans who once saved Earth from the Terraformer fleet, originally designed to aid in the colonization of the galaxy. As the truth begins to surface, X: Beyond the Frontier lets players step into Kyle Brennan's shoes as he searches for a way to escape, aids a group in uncovering their true heritage, and continues the fight to save Earth from the Xenon, the now-known Terraformers.
The Human Race had progressed to the point where interstellar travel became possible, creating massive automated machines to aid in colonizing distant worlds. But a flaw in their programming caused them to rebel, turning against us. This forced us to set a trap to defend Earth, ultimately exiling the Human race back to its home planet. Five hundred years later, Kyle Brennan begins his journey by commanding an experimental ship equipped with cutting-edge technology capable of traversing immense distances on its own. But when the system fails, he becomes stranded in a cluster of alien-inhabited sectors, hunted and cut off from home. This is his story of survival... Beyond the Frontier...
