Summary
The Game Boy Color version of X-Men: Mutant Academy.
Much like its PlayStation version, X-Men: Mutant Academy on the Game Boy Color is a fighting game that highlights Marvel's famous mutants. Taking into account the system's technical constraints, the stages in this edition are presented in 2D, and there are noticeable changes to the gameplay.
The game includes four X-Men characters (Cyclops, Wolverine, Storm, and Gambit) and five mutant antagonists (Magneto, Toad, Mystique, Sabretooth, and Pyro). In addition, there are two hidden characters, whose unlock methods are revealed after finishing the game's story mode.
Besides the story mode, where one character battles through a series of opponents, the game offers multiple other modes, including training, team-based battle (with groups of three fighters), survival (where a single character must defeat all others with just one health bar), and a versus mode that uses the Game Link cable for multiplayer.
The Game Boy's two buttons control kicks and punches (or basic mutant powers like Cyclops' optic blast). As the fight progresses, a rage meter slowly fills, allowing players to unleash powerful special moves by inputting specific button sequences.
