Summary
Xenoblade Chronicles X is an action role-playing game and part of the Xeno series, acting as a spiritual follow-up to Xenoblade Chronicles on the Wii. Like its predecessor, it features an open-world role-playing format with a strong focus on exploration. Players can move around on foot or pilot massive humanoid mechs, known as "Skells" (referred to as "Dolls" in the Japanese version), which are roughly four times the height of the player characters. These Skells can be controlled by the player and are capable of flying, moving across water, and transforming into various vehicles like motorcycles or tanks. The game also includes aerial combat sequences.
Storyline
Xenoblade Chronicles X begins with humanity facing imminent annihilation as two warring alien factions threaten Earth. In response, humanity builds massive interstellar arks to flee the planet. Only a handful of these arks manage to escape, one of them being the White Whale. Two years into its journey, the White Whale is ambushed and hurled onto the alien world of Mira. During the violent crash, the Lifehold—a vessel holding most of the human settlers—is torn away from the ark, with its lifepods scattering across Mira's surface. The protagonist awakens from one of these pods, found by Elma and taken to New Los Angeles. Suffering from memory loss, the avatar joins BLADE alongside Elma and Lin to locate the missing lifepods and track down the Lifehold. As they traverse Mira on their missions, BLADE encounters various alien species and uncovers the truth: their attackers are part of the Ganglion coalition, a powerful alliance led by the Ganglion race, whose goal is the complete eradication of humanity.
